Blueprint Leaders for Social Justice program

Hello Cal Bears!
Did you ever wish there was a class that would teach you how to be a leader? To learn the skills and everything that goes behind the words "leadership experience"? Ever feel like you could do a world of good for those who are judged by their label? Take the Blueprint Leaders for Social Justice class! Learn how to address social justice issues within your community, work within groups on projects, and lead workshops to help your community!

What this is: a 2 unit class next semester
When: Wednesdays 5:30-7:30 pm


Details:
This program provides a unique opportunity for UC Berkeley students to explore innovative leadership styles with the goal of learning to initiate and influence social change. By engaging with students from a variety of backgrounds with unique leadership and academic
experiences, Blueprint creates a strong foundation to explore our identities, values, and leadership
styles.Through engaging in team projects, students learn about how they are
perceived in groups and gain tips for effectiv
e team building and functioning. A networking session
with current student leaders at Cal will share how Blueprint students can get involved with different
leadership opportunities on campus. The semester ends in a series of student-led workshops on various
leadership theories and topics and final presentations.

To learn more, attend the information session on Wednesday, October 24 th from 7:00-8:00 pm
in 2030 VLSB. The meeting will further discuss Blueprint's mission and how you can learn more about
your own leadership potential and interests.

Hello ambitious soon-to-be super successful Cal Opp scholars! Did you know a ton of jobs want you to have previous experience in their field? That's a tall order! Fortunately, there's an internship fair hosted by the Career Center and Society of Women Engineers (SWE). So listen up, and mark your calendars:

What: an amazing head start opportunity - the Early Bird Internship Fair
Where: MLK Student Union, Pauley Ballroom, 3rd Floor
When: Wednesday, October 17th, 2012, 12pm - 4pm.

The Details:
Recruiters from business, industry, non-profits and government will bring information about summer internship positions. You can be any major possible, and find an internship here. There will be nearly 50 employers currently recruiting for prestigious internships, including: 
CBS Interactive, Chevron (Finance), Endless Mobile, Fitbit, Ford Motor Company, GLIDE, KQED, Macy's, Microsoft, Palantir, QB3, Robert T Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service, Salesforce.com, SanDisk, SEO, Zappos.com... and many more!

Update: (Scholarship Alert! for) Cal in the Capital

Hey scholars!
For those of you considering Cal in the Capital but afraid that you may not be able to afford it, J. Christopher Stevens Public Service Fellows is an award for students with financial need pursuing internships in public service and foreign affairs.

Details:

  • Stevens Scholars will participate in a structured program of training, education and internship opportunities in public service and foreign affairs. 
  • The awards will be distributed through UC Berkeley’s nationally recognized Cal Corps Public Service Center, one of the largest public service centers in the nation, serving over 6,000 students a year.
  • Students who receive the Stevens Award will collaborate with the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomat in Residence, who is located in UC Berkeley’s Career Center. 
  • The Scholars will support the Ambassador’s efforts to identify Cal students who are interested in Foreign and Civic Service careers, and they will also organize an annual "Public Service Career Networking Event" that will bring together approximately 125 students with a wide range of alumni/friends of Cal who serve in the public service arena.

Washington DC: Summer internship opportunity!


Cal Opp Scholars!

To students of all majors, backgrounds, year, and interests:

Spend this summer in Washington D.C. pursuing a challenging internship through Cal in the Capital (CITC) !!!!

Why you should be interested:
  • Each year over 75 UC Berkeley students are chosen for a challenging summer internship in Washington DC. 
  • Students intern in government agencies, think tanks and research institutions, and more.
  • Past participants have interned at American Red Cross, the Department of Education, Amnesty Int'l, World Wildlife Fund, Center for Health and Gender Equity, etc.


Application opens Friday, October 5th and closes Friday, October 26th, 5PM.


A summer internship in D.C. is definitely something nice to have down on your resumè so everyone is encouraged to apply!

Biology Majors Fair

Biology majors, don't think we've left you out!

7th Annual Biology Majors Fair!!
When: Tuesday September 25th, 2012 10:30am-1:30pm
Where: Valley Life Sciences (VLSB) Courtyard
Details: Come meet reps from each biology major we have! (There are more than a dozen!) Learn about study abroad programs, careers you could have with a bio major, other opportunities and more!
There's also a raffle - $2K value MCAT course. And what major fair would be complete without a few workshops?

their experiences with undergraduate research and how they succeeded 
at Cal.
