Hello inspired junior and senior researchers!
If you haven't already heard, there's an awesome program called UCDC that will send you to Washington, D.C. to do academic research projects of your own design, and to participate in internships related to your research. The Program is open to juniors and seniors in any major, and graduating seniors can participate during their final semester at UCB (but not after they actually graduate).
To apply, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have junior or senior standing in the semester you plan to attend. You must also have taken at least two upper-division courses on the UC Berkeley campus, which provide background for the topic you intend to research. Internships are available in a wide variety of DC-based government agencies, nonprofit organizations, policy think-tanks, media outlets, and businesses. Students live in the brand new UC Washington Center at Scott Circle and UCB financial aid is transferrable to DC. Scholarships are also available. Students earn a full semester of UCB academic credit.
Applications for the Fall 2013 UCDC Program are due Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 4 P.M.
Candidate interviews will be conducted in mid-March for the Fall 2013 UCDC Program. Accepted students will be notified in the 12th week of class in the semester they apply.
There are also some upcoming info sessions. An alum of the UCDC Program will speak about his or her experiences and answer your questions. Come check them out!
Tuesday, Feb. 5th: 4-5:30 P.M. in 706 Barrows
Wednesday, Feb. 13th: 12 noon-1:30 P.M. in 791 Barrows
Information about how to locate internships in DC is available on a bulletin board outside the UCB Washington Program Office and at the Information Sessions. The Program Office is at M24 Wheeler Hall, and generally will be open 9-12 and 1-4 on Mondays through Thursdays.
More details about the program can be obtained by e-mailing ucdc@berkeley.edu, by visiting M24 Wheeler Hall, or by calling 510/642-9102.
Good Luck!
